A Loss That Taught Me More Than a Win – Lessons from a Business Simulation
On Wednesday, April 15, I had the opportunity to participate in an extremely intensive and unconventional business simulation during a meeting from the Business Warsaw series.
The workshop led by an experienced trainer took the form of a strategic game in two-person teams. Together with my teammate, we formed a cohesive duo, focusing on dynamic collaboration and great fun that instantly engaged us from the first minutes.
The rules were clear but demanding: to win, we had to flawlessly guess the hidden rule governing the entire game within a limited time. Although we had several very close and promising concepts circulating in our heads, we ultimately failed to decipher this mechanism before time ran out.
Insights and perspectives after the simulation:
- Reality constraints: Not everything in business and market realities is achievable – accepting these boundaries is key to better planning.
- No universal recipes: In business, no ready-made solution or commonly used practice provides a 100% guarantee of commercial success.
- The art of communication: One of the most difficult yet crucial skills is the ability to precisely and clearly convey complex knowledge.
- Value of feedback: The facilitator's final lecture, in-depth explanation of rules, and analysis of strategic lessons from the simulation turned out to be an absolute knowledge bomb.
- Fresh stimuli: The entire workshop was an extremely refreshing experience that provided me with completely new stimuli, perspectives, and concepts ready for immediate implementation in daily business activities.
Networking – building relationships during breaks
During breaks between strategic rounds, it was time for what gives me enormous satisfaction: networking! I had a fantastic opportunity to meet new, inspiring people from diverse industries, renew existing contacts, and simply exchange fresh thoughts.
The informal discussion after the official part ended was a great complement to this successful evening.
The entire evening passed in such a great atmosphere that several hours flew by like a few minutes.
