Speaking Without a Mic – How Fun Triumphs Over Stress

I gave my very first public speech. And it was absolutely great!

Last year, I started using LinkedIn consciously – exactly what it was built for. Back then, I still had a lot to learn, but I knew one thing: there are people who already have that knowledge. So, I decided to talk to someone who could open my eyes. I ended up booking a consultation.

I walked away from our conversation with a few crucial lessons, and I simply put those recommendations into practice. I have great memories of that meeting, which gave me a powerful push forward. One of the main recommendations was to experiment and step out of my comfort zone – meaning exposure to entirely new experiences.

I made a promise to myself back then that I would do it: speak in front of a group of people. And I kept my word. I delivered my first talk to the students of 42 Warsaw.

I wasn't wrong – sharing knowledge and speaking to a crowd gives me immense satisfaction.

My very first public presentation in front of an amazing community.

My takeaways after my first 'conscious' speech:

  • Stress under control: The stress is much smaller than it might seem before stepping on stage.
  • Intuitive tech: Changing slides with a remote clicker is quite natural and quickly becomes second nature.
  • The posture challenge: Maintaining the right, professional posture throughout the presentation is quite a challenge.
  • The power of spontaneity: Going with the flow and staying relaxed makes you speak more freely and add interesting, 'inside' insights.
  • Value of preparation: The fun of the process is worth every single minute spent on prior preparations.
  • Path to mastery: Practice makes perfect – I still have a long way to go to pass on knowledge with ultimate precision.
  • Fun first: The whole venture brought me pure joy, despite the challenges I faced along the way.
  • The most important lesson from my stage debut:

I guess that's what life is all about – to have a good time and enjoy taking on new challenges.

And what did I speak about? Well, that's a topic for a separate post coming up soon.

It was an incredible, eye-opening experience that only convinced me further that I want to keep pursuing this path. One thing is for sure – this definitely won't be my last time on stage! See you at the next speaking events.
